Here we are then, NKC 2020 is just around the corner and this is the first instalment of our Pre-Season Driver’s Briefing. The main reason for this is there is a fair amount of information we would like to share with you and this way you can sift through it at your leisure and in comfort rather than listening to us talking for an hour in a cold/wet paddock. There will still be briefings at the tracks but we will be able to focus on the specifics of the weekends and keep them brief, as the name implies!
We would like to start off by showing our gratitude to everyone who has helped us get this far. Many of you will recall that after 3 years of NKC, in the autumn of last year, we received some news that scuppered our 2020 plans. After a lot of consideration, we made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 season, as we weren’t in a position to take on the financial risk of creating a stand-alone championship.
Following this we were thrown a lifeline by Nigel Ball and his company Junction 6 Commercials. With the very generous backing we were offered, we were able to put a plan together with confidence that the championship would be viable. Not only this, but the fact someone was willing to offer their support showed us that people enjoy NKC just as much as we do, which is a huge compliment and provided additional motivation. So, thank you Nigel and everyone at Junction 6 commercials. NKC 2020 simply wouldn’t have happened without you.
Additionally, many of you have shown us support and enthusiasm to help promote and develop the championship. From offering to help with planning, to sharing and commenting on Facebook, to encouraging your friends to join in. All of this makes a difference as numbers on the grid are critical to the immediate and long-term success of NKC. And finally, drivers who have been with us year after year, our karting family, who keep coming back and spending their hard-earned money, we really appreciate your support. Thank you everyone.
This year we welcome Matty Street and his Cadet Kart Championship, who will be our guests at 5 rounds. They have a great cost saving concept for cadets, which fits well with NKC and we are pleased to have them on board. We are also fortunate that Matty has been able to bring his expertise to assist with some of the organisation and is also providing us with personal racing support, so we can focus on organising the meetings but also continue to race ourselves. So, if you can’t find us there’s a good chance we’ll be in the CKC awning!
As we write, we have 3 strong NKC classes and whilst we would have liked 1 or 2 more, the numbers in the classes we have are great. The huge benefit of this is we will have lots of track time. We will continue to look for ways to get more people involved and have a number of ideas for this, but even so, we’re all going to be getting tremendous value for money this year. At Hooton Park we are by ourselves so there will be even more potential track time. If you have any ideas on how you would like to utilise this, please let us know.
Slicks are now in stock and if you’ve paid for delivery they should be with you in the next few days. Wets are also available for immediate delivery. Please don’t leave it until the last minute to order wets as stock levels vary at the supplier. We will bring a limited number of slicks to each track for sale but not wets. Championship registration will remain open indefinitely and entries for Round 1 are open now.
And that’s about it for Part 1. In later instalments we will focus more on the weekends themselves so keep your eyes peeled and please do keep pushing to help promote NKC. It really does make a huge difference.
